Day Eight: Happy Veterans Day and Revised Plan

Happy Veterans Day everyone. Putting politics aside, it is right to thank all the veterans that gave of themselves in defense of this great nation. I am also a vet having served during peacetime in the mid-1980s. I salute all the branches of our Armed Forces in the job that that do. My heart goes to all those killed in the Ft. Hood massacre. I know that politics persuades how we view the world and what kinds of actions that we play in it, but it is the men and women of the Armed forces that put volunteer to put themselves in harms way whichever the pendulum of the political parties swings. Go Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines (Happy 234 Birthday), and Coast Guard.
I revised the the plan. I realized as I was climbing into bed that 10/12/68 was just starting up. What a magnificent piece of work this show is. I just about let it slipped by while I slumbered. So I stopped the player and restarted it up for an afternoon finish. I am gearing up though for the first ever Marathon beginning tonight and culminating with the end of the world. I plan of going out see the new disaster from Roland Emmerich called 2012. I heard that this will be his last of this genre. It is hard to top the destruction of the world. More on the End of the World Marathon later. We're running full tilt into the abyss.

Day Seven: 1968

I believe that I have been stirring the pot a bit to much, or it could be the PC that I own. I had serious attack last night. I had to update my antivirus software and do a complete scan of my computer. All is good this morning. I am very relieved for this. There was day that I swore off computers. Silly human that I am. I can't imagine my life without one. When you suffer from a dibilitating disease of depression like I do, it can be your only link to the world. That is why when I make comments about going into the world or family I don't say these things lightly.

I am tackling today the file the Grateful Dead 1968. It is very great year indeed. It actually one of my favorite years. The base for the album "Anthem of the Sun" was recorded during the early part of this year. There is a guy that is a much better writer than I, who wrote some killer essays on the subject. Here is his link: http://deadessays.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Here is another link that I hope you will find just as interesting. It is about the artist who created the album cover art for Anthem. http://www.billzart.net/files/AnthemGuide_2002-12-02_web.pdf

The msuic for today equals 18 hours. Yeah!!!!

Day Six: Late Night Sounds

As the holidays approach, I am always reminded of spending time with the ones I love. I maybe headed to the sunny confines of Florida for the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Just because I will in travel mode, this does mean that this project will be put on hold. I have hard drives for my laptop that are crammed full with goodness that is aching to get played. Thanksgiving maybe a problem, but the rest of that weekend will be a marathon.

I am also getting in the mood for shopping for Christmas. I missed a record shop in Dublin, Ireland that I wanted to check out, but much to good fortune, they have a thriving mail order business going. Traditional Irish Music is going to someones gift this year. www.claddaghrecords.com/ I also have to put together some artwork for a major project that I did last year. I am giving a six disc set of music taken from the first four seasons of SNL. I think that the best way to give a gift is to buy what they want, not what you think they want. But when you put together a project that contains music, it should have continuous theme that make sense. The transitions from song to song should have a harmonious flow. You could have a theme transitions that go from one extreme to the next which I have done. I does sound pretty jumbled and awkward, but it will leave your listeners guessing as to what is to come next.

Day Six: 1967 Summer of Love

Once the news got out, everybody wanted to be part of the scene. The scene was not only located in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, but was taken to such places as Los Angeles and Toronto, Canada. This November Monday is an exploration of this wonderous year. The big difference in the sound from the privious year is that music has expanded out of the tight constraits that had held the jams in control. The music is more like a raging beast that prowls and builds up for an assult on the senses. This pent-up psychic energy grows stronger as the year climbs month by month. It is really too bad that they were overlooked at Monterey: thier contribution to the soundtrack or the film would have given them some credit were credit was deserved. They say that they played poorly, but it was really because of where they were on the schedule between The Who and Jimi Hendrix. They are all in the Rock and Roll HOF, but there you go again with that place.

This is what is being played today from this drive. This should be about eleven hours of bliss.

Some background about the Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds recording

While searching out the origins of the Ross School, I came upon this article from ABC news. It seems that people were forking out $15,000 for series of shows in the Hampton. I guess it is not a world for the mere mortals. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=3371477&page=1&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312

Day Five: Sunday continued

After careful consideration over a plate of fresh oysters on the half shell and Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo, the realization that the mere playing of just two shows at a time won't complete the task. Oh course the purpose is to enjoy what I have as well to finally give a spin to the collection. This means the more the merrier. I may have learn to listen to the music while I sleep. This may be a twenty four hour- seven day a week job. So pardon me if I become kind of anal over this. It is my Virgo sensibilities. I am using WinAmp Pro to play the music. It also helps mark the time.

So for the next ten hours, here is the play list:

Day Five: Lazy Sunday

With my football team having a the day off this week, an opportuity came my way that is just what the doctor the ordered. I have been treated for my disorders at the local VA hospital on account of my being vet. I served my time duirng peacetime as a medic. At McCormick & Schmick, they are honor Vets today by offering free entrees. A real good dinner is something I need. Later today, the plan is watch some football and clean my apartment.

The tunes this morning:
Boz Scaggs At The Roxy W.Hollywood, CA 1976-04-07"The Live Silk Degrees" with soon-to-be Toto backup band! Great Soundboard. A killer groove! mp3 sample and artwork included
This concert was recorded with the all-star band which soon left to become Toto. It is an astounding soundboard, and perhaps the best recording ever to come from TAKRL. You will not believe this show came from vinyl! It is close to perfect in every way. And, after 2 1/2 years on the tracker and 1200 snatches, it's finally time for a fresh seed.
To make it even better, they are performing songs from the "Silk Degrees" album. As good as that album is, this show leaves that album in the dust. Boz and the band were clearly loving the attention and it shows in the attention they gave to making this as perfect an event as could be.
The "Silk Degrees" album invaded the charts, and just hung there for weeks and weeks. The music just makes you feel good.
Although this LP would be later known as "Jump Street Jive Drive", my copy is an advance pressing with a totally different insert. Printed on blue paper, it has a collage of Playboy cartoons. It just says "only good Boz songs" on the insert. The pressing was probably better also, which is why it sounded so quiet.
Throw this on, take your shoes off, and shaakee it, baybe! (I did not write the privious passage.)Setlist:
Lowdown You Make It So Hard What Can I Say Might Have To Cry Jump Street Slow Dancer It's Over Lido Shuffle Dinah Flo Band Intros I Got Your Number

Enjoy!
